Here is a quick test of cameras we had on hand: standard definition prosumer and consumer cameras and a high definition consumer camera. I often read that a video camera is “excellent in low light/natural light” but when doing low impact/low profile documentaries and ethnographies, it is the most vital feature to have in a camera, along with the ability to do pro-audio. This is a quick comparison of Panasonic AG DVX100B, Sony DSR PD-170, Sony DCR-PC5, Sony DCR-PC1000, Sony HDR-CX.
